RutGuard 2" Geocell is designed to provide structure for light duty applications from patios to pathways and is even commonly used ito strengthen the sub-base and reduce prepwork and compacted base material needed for paver stone, flagstone, and turf installations.
Below are a few ideas to use the 2" geocell for, though the possibilities are endless.
Paver Stone Base for Patios & Pathways: An Additional Step that Keeps Your Project Looking Fresh
Using the 2" geocell panel in the prep-work stage of installing paver stones can reduce the amount of compacted material that is typically required within the base layer beneath the stones. Adding strength to your base layer for pavers and flagstone can keep stones from shifting and sinking into the ground, reducing maintenance over time.
Before installing artificial turf whether for a backyard landcape or putting green, a compacted base (typically gravel or sand) is required beneath the surface. The 2" geocell panel provides more strength using less to reduce not only your prep-work up front, but routine maintenance over time. By confining material within the cells of the 2" panel, 3x the strength of gravel is achieved, and 5x the strength of sand is achieved; in other words, 2" of compacted material inside RutGuard Geocell equals 6" of gravel OR 10" of sand.
2" Geocell should be considered in any area where gravel or stone is being placed. Over time, stones can shift, move, or be displaced by traffic or rain. Using geocell beneath the surface not only holds the gravel in place, but also creates a mattress effect by dispersing weight across rather than down, which is generally why ruts or potholes are created. Edging rather stone, metal, plastic, etc. can be added for an aesthetic look, though not required, as unlike traditional hard paver products, geocell panels are designed to be completely buried/covered by the material.
